The Mike Kim Show

In today's episode I interview Alissa Daire Nelson, a speaker, coach, and author of the new book From Frustrated to Frickin' Awesome: 4 Steps To Achieve the Success You're Wired For. If you've ever felt guilty about not being good at "everything" then this episode is for you!

Alissa specializes in strengths-based coaching, using both the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment and her own material. We talk about why no one is really wired to be well-rounded, how you can capitalize on your strengths, and how to leverage this knowledge for a happier and healthier business and life.

Special thanks to leadership consultant Mark Slemons and productivity expert Robby Miles for your reviews on iTunes! Check these guys out!

This episode is a direct response to a question posted in the Brand You Community Facebook group by Mariana Ruiz:

"One thing that keeps coming to mind is how do you get good at networking? I am a huge introvert and this year I have pushed myself out to join masterminds and even going to a live event. How do I keep up those relationships and nourish the right ones without feeling burnt out? And also making sure they are strategic."

A few thoughts regarding my personal mindset when it comes to networking: It’s not about hunting, it’s about helping. It's about farming. It's about cultivating relationships. I also look to connect with super-connectors.

Here are the five points summed in today's episode:

  1. Pick who you want to get to know
  2. Study these folks ahead of time so you’re prepared to add legendary value.
  3. Ask questions that get the conversation going.
  4. Take a strategic selfie
  5. Follow up and offer something they would genuinely find useful

Never Ask These Questions!

  • Is there anything I can help you with?
  • So, tell me about yourself...
  • What’s your story?
  • What do you do?

Instead, Ask These Questions:

  • What’s giving you energy right now?
  • What are you working on that’s really exciting you?
  • I know such-and-such a person that might be a great fit for you. Interested?

This episode is a direct response to a question posted in the Brand You Community Facebook group by Dustin Dauenhauer: "If you had to start from scratch what would be the top 5 things you would focus on and why?"

Well, here they are:

  1. learn copywriting
  2. building an email list
  3. get professional design work done
  4. build leveraged income earlier (talk about active, leveraged, and passive)
  5. find ONE mentor who is “going places" and go from there
  6. BONUS: learn Facebook ads earlier

One of the keys to my success has been thinking in terms of 10x rather than 2x. When you ask yourself the hard question of how you plan to grow your business by 10x, it opens up new pathways in your thinking and decision-making.

In this episode, I share how 10x thinking has affected how I run my business now and the ripple effect it's had on how I set my fees and decide which projects I take.
