Today I’m sharing one of the most helpful frameworks for me in my business. I learned it from my friend Tod Herman. This framework has helped me see where my business is and where I want to go with it in the coming years. The 5 stages are:

  1. The start-up phase
  2. The ramp-up phase
  3. The build-up phase
  4. The scale-up phase
  5. The leader-up phase

No framework is perfect, but this one is extremely helpful. My hope is that you’ll be able to identify where you are in this matrix. This will show you what you need to do to solve the struggles you’re currently going through in your business.

Michelle Deering is a licensed clinical psychologist, board-certified sports psychologist, speaker, consultant, and author. She has a really interesting take on what happens when parents build personal brands. It’s all about our relationships with our moms. This spills over into our business-building efforts, families, friendships, and every other area of our lives. Because the personal brand space has matured, I wanted to bring Michelle on to use this platform to broaden the conversation. I hope it sheds light on the challenges you face that I may not. Throughout the episode, we discuss:

  1. How entrepreneurship affects our relationships with our kids and parents
  2. What you need to know if you’re struggling with mom guilt
  3. The difference between mother/son and mother/daughter relationships
  4. The reflections of themselves that moms see in their daughters
  5. How to navigate the relationships we have with our parents when we know something’s missing
  6. Mother-in-law relationships
  7. One step that parents can take today to be intentional in their relationships with their kids and parents

Scott Aemisegger is an expert on childhood trauma. He has both the knowledge and experience from dealing with it in his own kids’ lives. I brought him onto the show to teach all of us about this extremely important topic.

Though business can feel like an extension of us when we have personal brands, it is really just a part of our lives. That is why I’m so passionate about holistically looking at my life and helping all of you do the same. Even if you don’t have kids, you can take a lot out of this conversation just as an entrepreneur. Scott and I discuss:

  1. His family background and how it’s influenced his work
  2. The steps he took to walk through his children’s trauma
  3. The mindset of a child with trauma when he or she is under top-down authority
  4. How to help your child heal from trauma
  5. What to look for in the key contact areas your child spends time in
  6. How to regulate your child’s environment before relating to and reasoning with them
  7. The mindset shift Scott went through as a parent and business owner
  8. My own experience with childhood trauma

In this week’s episode, I’m doing another Q & A with my good friend Lauren Davis. We run a mastermind together with my Integrator Chelsea, so we’re always talking and crossing paths. I wanted to bring her on to answer some listener questions with me because of her expertise in starting and growing her own personal brand. Like me, she has tried many different things to figure out what she really wanted to do with her life. During the episode, we discuss:

  1. How to get clarity on your life’s purpose
  2. Throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks
  3. The best way to start from zero
  4. How to start a personal brand as an expert
  5. Some ways entrepreneurship has forced us to grow
